{Reflections} - Simplicity

"A very simple person."

"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication." Leonardo da Vinci

I am in awe of the humility of our new Pope. I am already learning so much from the actions of this Holy man. I have always been a firm believer that actions speak louder than words. You may be able to talk the talk but, can you walk the walk? Especially when it's hard. What a beautiful example especially when our world is pulling us to glorify ourselves. How good of a job we have, how much money we have, what kind of clothes we ware, how fancy our house is etc. All of this is how we appear to the world. I am guilty of all of this. I am human. These things are not purely bad in themselves, it is what we have in our hearts. Do we want that BIG job so that we look good to the world and buy extravagant things, or do we want it to do good for God's people? What do we look like to God? That is why I am learning so much from Pope Frances. How to be humble, and to be the example. To humble myself to be His instrument. Who am I to be glorified when everything that I have been given is from God.

In all things give glory to God, and do all things for God. I have been asking myself what this really means. How do I put this into action in my every day life? Since I work in the health care field I have the opportunity to meet and care for many people. Treat everyone with love especially the ones who are hard to love. It's simple really, and yet so hard some days. When it is particularly difficult I think to myself this person is as much a child of God as I. He loves him, who am I to judge this stranger? Strip the person of their humanness and try to see them as God sees them. It then becomes much easier to be patient and kind to that person.

"To love another person, is to see the face of God" Les Miserables

"Jesus Christ conferred power upon Peter, but what sort of power was it? Jesus’ three questions to Peter about love are followed by three commands: feed my lambs, feed my sheep. Let us never forget that authentic power is service, and that the Pope too, when exercising power, must enter ever more fully into that service which has its radiant culmination on the Cross." - Pope Francis (Inaugural Mass Homily)

  1. I'm not Catholic but I'm still so thankful for the new Pope. He seems like such a Godly man and, as a Protestant, I can respect him greatly!

  2. Like Susannah, I'm not Catholic, but I love this post. Humility, and allowing yourself to be used by God are so important. I'm glad that the pope is someone in a position of power who demonstrates these things to the world! :)

  3. Kinda late on this post, but I have been reminded and humbled by Pope Francis too. This evening I saw a news report that warmed my heart. He had hugged and kissed a child with mental disability. The news report said, "he continues to do non-traditional things by reaching out to the crowd."

What a beautiful picture. Reaching out. I struggle with applying worship in aspects of my life and pray the Lord would humble me.

    Thanks for this post!
